Jakarta Police Take Steps to Contain Ransomware Attack
Jakarta. The Jakarta Police said they have taken steps to contain and prevent the spread of the WannaCry ransomware in the capital.
The malicious software has affected computer networks at facilities across the globe, including Dharmais Hospital in West Jakarta.
Police have categorized the massive global attack as cyberterrorism and established a special task force in cooperation with the government to address the issue.
"We are conducting preventative actions to the best of our ability," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono on Monday (15/05).
"There are also tips to prevent [the spread of the ransomware] before turning on computers, such as disconnecting any Wi-Fi connections," he added.
National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul meanwhile said on Tuesday that there have been no reports yet of financial losses as a result of the cyber-attack.
He said the people responsible for the attack can be prosecuted under Article 30 of the 2008 Law on Information and Electronic Transactions.
The police and the Ministry of Communications and Informatics are cooperating on preventive measures.
