Jakarta Will Be Safe on New Year's Eve: Military Chief
Jakarta. Jakarta is expected to be safe on New Year's Eve as it was during Christmas, Indonesian Military chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto said on Monday (26/12).
His comment comes amid a week-long operation involving more than 100 police and military personnel securing major public places during the holidays.
"Members of the public have been working together to safeguard Christmas, and I hope they can do so on New Year's Eve," Hadi said at a Christmas open house event in Banten near Jakarta.
In attendance at the residence of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker Maruarar Sirait were National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian and several other politicians.
Tito and Hadi jointly visited a number of churches in Jakarta earlier on Christmas Eve to extend greetings and monitor security arrangements.
"Ensuring security is our task. We have promised that everything will be safe," Hadi said, adding that relations between the military and police remain solid.
