Jakarta. Indonesia U-19 secured their second ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 tournament title after defeating Thailand 1-0 in the final held at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Monday.

The decisive goal was scored by Jens Raven in the 17th minute. Raven capitalized on a header from Kadek Arel, slotting the ball past the Thai goalkeeper.

This marks Indonesia’s second title in this tournament, the first being in 2013 under the same coach, Indra Sjafri. Back then, Indonesia triumphed over Vietnam in the final through a penalty shootout.

Thailand’s defeat dashed their hopes of becoming the team with the most AFF U-19 titles. Currently, they share the record with Australia, each having five titles.

Indonesia advanced to the AFF U-19 2024 final after a 1-0 victory over Malaysia, thanks to a goal from Muhammad Alfharezzi Buffon. Thailand reached the final by defeating Australia 1-0 with an own goal by Dylan Leonard.

The match began with Indonesia on the offensive, but Thailand’s defense managed to thwart early attacks. In the 13th minute, Jens Raven had a chance but his shot was blocked. Shortly after, Thailand’s Thanawut Phochai hit the post with a shot from inside the penalty box.

Indonesia took the lead in the 17th minute when Kafiatur Rizky’s corner kick was headed by Kadek Arel and then finished by Jens Raven. Thailand attempted to equalize but their efforts were repeatedly denied by the Indonesian defense. Several shots went off target.

In the 32nd minute, Kafiatur Rizky was injured and replaced by Toni Firmansyah. Thailand had a free-kick opportunity in the 36th minute, but Piyawat’s shot hit the right post.

Just before halftime, Thanawut’s shot was saved by Indonesian goalkeeper Ikram. Indonesia also had a chance in the 45th minute, but Toni Firmansyah’s free-kick was caught by the Thai goalkeeper. The first half ended with Indonesia leading 1-0.

In the second half, Indra Sjafri substituted Figo Dennis for the injured Welber Jardim. Thailand had a chance but Ikram saved the shot. Jens Raven had another opportunity in the 76th minute but slipped in the penalty box.

Indra Sjafri made three substitutions, bringing on Arkhan Kaka, Meshaal Hamzah, and Mufdi Iskandar. Thailand continued to press but couldn’t break through Indonesia’s defense.

In the 78th minute, Thailand’s Thanakrit Chongmuangpak took a free-kick, but Indonesia’s defense cleared the ball. As the match neared its end, Thailand’s Paripan Wongsa’s shot was saved by Ikram.

The match ended 1-0 in favor of Indonesia, crowning them the AFF U-19 2024 champions.
