Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed a decree prolonging the tenure of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders for an additional year, an aide confirmed on Wednesday.

This decree follows a ruling from the Constitutional Court, stipulating a five-year term for KPK commissioners.

Jokowi has also issued a separate decree to synchronize the term duration of members within the KPK’s oversight body.

"With these dual decrees, the tenure of KPK leaders and oversight body members is now set to conclude on December 20, 2024," said Ari Dwipayana, coordinator of the presidential expert council.

On May 25, the Constitutional Court ruled that KPK commissioners should serve a five-year term, responding to a motion by KPK Deputy Chairman Nurul Ghufron.

The influential commission, renowned for prosecuting several active ministers and hundreds of lawmakers and regional government leaders since its establishment in 2004, is presently under the interim leadership of Nawawi Pomolango.

The original chairman, Firli Bahuri, was suspended following allegations in an extortion case after the police named him as a suspect.
