Jokowi Meets Indonesian Migrant Workers in Hong Kong
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo was warmly welcomed by more than 5,400 Indonesian citizens, including many migrant workers, during a ceremony to welcome his arrival in Hong Kong at the Asia World Expo on Sunday (30/04).
Jokowi then joined a discussion during which the migrant workers complained to their president about several pressing issues, including troubles they have encountered with the foreign workers identity cards, or KTKLN, which have prevented many of them from returning to Indonesia.
In response, Jokowi instructed the head of the Migrant Workers Protection and Placement Agency, or BNP2TKI, to make sure every worker is registered accurately with the agency.
"Just write down their names, where they work, don't make things difficult. I don't want to hear about this problem anymore," Jokowi said at the discussion.
Jokowi and first lady Iriana walked around the exhibition center to shake hands with Indonesians who came to greet them and chatted with Romlah and Iin, two Indonesian citizens living in Hong Kong, and gave them each a bicycle — a gift that the president is now known for — to be sent to their hometowns of Jombang and Kediri in East Java.
