Jakarta. The Indonesian Football Association, or PSSI, has invited President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to attend its preseason tournament, which will kick off in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Saturday (04/02).

The President's Cup will see participation by 20 of Indonesia's elite clubs vying for multi-billion rupiah prizes, including a Rp 100 million ($7,400) match fee paid per team until the quarterfinal stage.

"Jokowi will attend the opening ceremony and the first match between PSS Sleman and Persipura Jayapura as he will reportedly be in Yogyakarta on that day," PSSI deputy chairman Iwan Budianto said, as quoted on the national football governing body's official website.

"We'll stage a traditional dance and art performance during the opening but with a lower budget," he added.

The cup is scheduled to end on Mar. 12 with Rp 3 billion in prize money for the first-place winner, Rp 2 billion for the runner-up and Rp 1 billion for third place.

The first President's Cup was held in 2015 to fill an empty slot in competition after the PSSI was suspended world football governing body FIFA.

Persib Bandung emerged as the winner of the first President's Cup after defeating Sriwijaya FC of South Sumatra 2-0.
