Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo continues to enjoy a robust job approval rating of 77.2 percent in the final year of his presidency, despite challenges such as food inflation and escalating political tensions following the elections, according to a recent poll.

The survey conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia revealed that Jokowi remains a trusted leader for the majority of Indonesians, just six months before the transfer of presidential power.

"Maintaining a job approval rating of 77.2 percent is significant amid economic challenges and political developments, particularly following Jokowi's separation from the PDI-P (Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle) during the elections," said Burhanuddin Muhtadi, founder of Indikator Politik, during a news conference in Jakarta.

“While the figure represents a slight decrease from pre-election levels, the downward trend is not statistically significant," he added.

Burhanuddin explained that the survey, conducted through phone interviews across Indonesia in early April, yielded results that closely mirrored a similar survey by Lingkaran Survey Indonesia, which placed Jokowi’s job approval rating at 76.5 percent.

"For the 22 percent of respondents who expressed disapproval of the president, concerns primarily centered around rising prices of basic commodities, allegations questioning the president's leadership capabilities, and perceived lack of support for the general populace. Others cited concerns regarding inequality in the distribution of social assistance," he noted.

Jokowi is set to conclude his second term in office on October 20 and will transfer power to president-elect Prabowo Subianto, who ran alongside the president’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his vice-presidential candidate.
