Jakarta. Former lawmaker Chairuman Harahap has denied any involvement in the e-KTP corruption case during questioning by antigraft investigators on Wednesday (17/01).
The Golkar Party politician was chairman of House of Representatives Commission II when it deliberated the budget for the graft-tainted project to procure electronic national identity cards, or e-KTP.
Massive graft in the Rp 5.9 trillion ($443 million) project resulted in Rp 2.3 trillion in state losses.
Setya Novanto, former House speaker and Golkar chairman, has been arraigned in the case for allegedly having received $7.3 million in kickbacks from the project.
Chairuman, who allegedly received $584,000 and Rp 26 billion, has dismissed the allegations, also made against dozens of other former members of the commission that oversees home affairs.
"This has been repeatedly denied. All others have denied that too," he told reporters at the offices of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in South Jakarta.
Chairuman testified against businessman Anang Sugiana Sudihardjo, who has been named a suspect in the case and who is currently in custody.
The former lawmaker said he had never known the businessman, whose company, Quadra Solution, was part of a consortium that won the contract for the project.
Another businessman, Andi Agustinus, also known as Andi Narogong, has been convicted for manipulating the project tender.
