Jakarta. Antigraft investigators have been questioning several people, reportedly including a ministry official, after a sting operation on Wednesday night (23/08) to uncover an alleged case of bribery, a commissioner said.

Reportedly, among those arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is the director general for sea transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Antonius Tonny Budiono.

KPK commissioner Basaria Panjaitan declined on Thursday to name the people who were arrested the night before, saying a preliminary investigation is still ongoing to determine whether or not to name them as suspects.

"Intensive questioning is underway. We have 24 hours to press charges," she told reporters.

The ministry official is alleged to have received bribes related to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's Sea Toll Road program, but Basaria declined to elaborate on the details.

The Sea Toll Road will connect dozens of new seaports built to improve regional connectivity and boost the economy.

Basaria said the investigators confiscated cash in several different currencies, including US and Singaporean dollars.

"We need time to calculate the full amount," she said, adding that during the operation the KPK also sealed off an office at the ministry's directorate general for sea transportation.
