KPU to Finalize 10 Local Election Regulations
Jakarta. The General Election Commission, or KPU, will soon finalize the drafts of 10 regulations on local elections, better known as PKPU, as part of the newly-issued Regional Election Law, an official said on Tuesday (12/07).
"We have entered the final deliberations on the regulations while waiting for consultation schedules with the House of Representatives," KPU commissioner Arief Budiman told reporters at KPU office in Jakarta, on Tuesday morning.
The KPU regulations will be issued as guidances which rule specific and technical issues of simultaneous local elections according to the newly-revised law. However, the new law ordered the KPU to discuss the drafts with House's Commission II, overseeing home affairs, which many activists claimed undermines KPU's independency.
Among the 10 regulations, Arief said the KPU has prioritized finishing five regulations regarding eligible voters, logistic use and distribution, campaign procedures, campaign fund and candidacy.
The other deliberated regulations are ruling on procedures and conducts of election organizers; voting procedures; recapitulation and results of election; election with only one candidate pair; and special election procedures in Jakarta, Aceh, Papua and West Papua provinces.
KPU held a plenary meeting on Tuesday morning to decide the acting chair of the commission who will replace Husni Kamil Manik following his sudden death and continue deliberation on the local election regulations.
