KPUD Asks Agus-Sylviana to Submit Resignation Statements

SEPTEMBER 23, 2016

Jakarta. The Jakarta Election Commission, or KPUD, has requested candidate pair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni to provide statements that they have resigned from their public service positions before they can register to participate in next year's gubernatorial race.

Jakarta KPUD chairman Surmano said on Friday (23/09) that only statements are required at this stage, but that their official letters of resignation will have to be submitted by Oct. 24, when the verification process ends.

If they do not meet the October deadline, the KPUD may cancel their nomination, Surmano added.

Four major political parties agreed on Thursday to nominate Agus, the son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, as their candidate. Sylviana, the incumbent Jakarta deputy governor for tourism and culture, was selected as his running mate.

The pair is planning to register their candidacy with the KPUD on Friday evening.
