Large Potential for Future Indonesia-Poland Cooperation: Minister Luhut

JUNE 11, 2017

Jakarta. Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said on Saturday (10/06) that there is large potential for future cooperation between Indonesia and Poland upon his arrival from a work visit to the Eastern European country on June 8-10.

"Strategic companies, such as PAL and Pindad, can develop cooperation with Poland. There’s also military radar technology that we could develop through a partnership between ITB [Bandung Institute of Technology] and Poland’s Pit-Radwar," Luhut said, referencing a leading Polish armaments manufacturer.

On his visit, Luhut met with various government officials, such as Polish Deputy Defense Minister Bartosz Kownacki and Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Luhut discussed several issues during his visit, including setting up direct flights between Indonesia and Poland through state flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and Poland's national airline, LOT Polish Airlines.

The minister also discussed the potential for future cooperation in higher education between the two countries and partnerships to develop waste-to-energy sources.

The minister was visiting Poland to fulfill an invitation from the Polish government to speak at the 5th International Maritime Congress on June 8-9.
