Lombok Airport Resumes Operations, Although Bali Volcano Alert Raised
Jakarta. Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara resumed operations on Monday (27/11), after a daily shutdown due to a volcanic ash plume released by Mount Agung in Bali, where the volcano's alert has been raised to the highest level.
The airport was closed on Sunday at 5:55 p.m. and reopened at 6:00 a.m. local time, Airnav Indonesia navigation service said in a statement.
"Twenty three flights, 10 from Lombok and 13 to Lombok were canceled due to the shutdown of Lombok International Airport," Airnav Indonesia operations director Wisnu Darjono said, adding that among the flights were two international ones, from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
On Monday, Airnav Indonesia issued a notice to airmen that the airspace above I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, will be closed for 24 hours, from 07:15 a.m. local time.
Volcanic ash has already reached the airport's ground.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Monday raised the volcano's alert to the highest level, forbidding all activity within 10 kilometers from the crater.
"The status of Mount Agung has been upgraded from level three to level four ... It is the top alert," BNPB spokesman Sutopo Nugroho said in a statement.
Authorities have called on communities in high-risk areas to take refugee.
