Jakarta. At least two people were injured after a man opened fire at the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) building in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The suspect was found dead at the scene, but it remains unclear if he was fatally shot by police officers who immediately arrived at the scene.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Komarudin said the incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. local time [03:30 GMT].

"The suspect has died," Komarudin said but declined to go into details pending the preliminary investigation.

"Officers are still conducting the crime scene investigation and questioning witnesses," Komarudin said.

A gun was taken from the scene as evidence.

A staffer at the building said the suspected shooter was a familiar person to people working in the building.

"His name is Mustofa, he had occasionally delivered letters to the MUI. He brought a gun today," said the staffer who introduced himself as Syahroel Jandie.

The attack injured two employees identified as Tri Suprianto and Nugrahadi Bambal.

"Mr. Tri was wounded by glass shrapnel while Bambal was hit by a bullet," Syahroel said.
