Karanganyar, Central Java. A 34-year-old man was found dead in his boarding room in Wonogiri, Central Java, with a headset connected to a charging phone, police reported on Friday.

The man, identified as Iyan Budi Kusumo, 34, was discovered on Wednesday with visible burns and darkened skin. Authorities suspect that electrocution from the charging phone may have been the cause of his death.

According to Anom Prabowo, the spokesman of the Wonogiri District Police, the landlord had tried to reach Iyan by phone but received no response.

"The landlord then went to the victim’s room, knocked on the door, but got no answer. Detecting a foul smell coming from the room, he decided to forcibly open the door," Anom said.

Inside, the landlord found Iyan dead, with burns covering his body, and the headset still connected to the charging phone. Neighbors were alerted, and the authorities were immediately contacted.

Preliminary investigations found no signs of physical violence on Iyan’s body, apart from the severe burns believed to be caused by electrocution.

The victim’s family declined an autopsy, considering Iyan’s death a tragic accident, Anom added.

In a press conference, Anom urged phone users to avoid using devices while they are charging, particularly when in bed, to prevent similar accidents.
