Jakarta. Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah confirmed on Thursday that she has tested positive for coronavirus and is self-isolating until the next two weeks.
Ida, who claimed she didn’t develop any serious symptom, is the fourth minister in President Joko Widodo cabinet to have contracted the highly contagious disease.
“The result of my PCR [polymerase chain reaction] test has come back positive,” she said in a text message.
“My physical condition is okay but I will self-isolate to avoid passing the disease to others,” she added.
The news came two days after Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced that he had been infected by the virus.
Three other ministers have earlier diagnosed positive for the virus and two of them required ICU treatment.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi was the first cabinet member to get infected. He was hospitalized and put on a ventilator in mid-March. He was discharged after spending almost two months in the hospital.
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo, currently being detained as a corruption suspect, was treated at the ICU for coronavirus in early September. He recovered after around two weeks.
Also in September, Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi tested positive for the virus, although he said he didn’t develop severe symptoms.
On Wednesday, a close aide denied rumors that Fachrul suffered reinfection, saying he last took a coronavirus test a day earlier and the result came back negative.
