MatahariMall.com and MDS to Join Forces Under One Brand
Jakarta. Matahari Department Store, one of Indonesia's largest department store chains, has announced that it will join forces with e-commerce platform MatahariMall.com and rebrand as Matahari.com.
MatahariMall.com has been one of the main e-commerce players in Indonesia since its launch in 2015.
"We always work for a better consumer shopping experience. That is why MatahariMall.com became the first Indonesian e-commerce platform to provide O2O [online to offline] throughout Indonesia," MatahariMall.com chief executive Hadi Wenas said.
Combining the two brands will bring together MatahariMall's technological expertise and Matahari Department Store's extensive fashion retail experience.
"This is a strategic development to maximize the consumer's omni-channel experience. Now Indonesian consumers have more choices to shop for fashion items without any restrictions, both online and offline," Hadi said.
The company has transitioned from a general e-commerce business offering products in various categories in early 2018 to becoming the top e-commerce platform in the fashion sector.
Matahari.com will continue to evolve and innovate, to better serve customers under its new motto, "One Brand, One Travel, One Shopping Experience."
The e-commerce company is competing with many local rivals, including Rocket Internet's Zalora.com and Hijup.com, which focuses on online sales of Muslim attire.
A recent study by global technology giant Google and Singaporean wealth fund Temasek showed that e-commerce sales in Southeast Asia may top $100 billion by 2025 from just $23 billion now.
The Jakarta Globe, Matahari Department Store and MatahariMall.com are all affiliated with the Lippo Group.
