Banten. At least 15 medical workers in South Tangerang, Banten province, were diagnosed with coronavirus and some of them have earlier received two doses of vaccine, a local official said on Wednesday.

Indonesia has vaccinated more than 1.2 million medical workers across the country using a vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech since Jan. 13.

It was the first report of infection among medical workers who have received two doses of the vaccine.

“We received information that 15 medical workers and seven internship students had tested positive for Covid-19 at Puskesmas [public health center] Jombang,” Deden Den, head of South Tangerang Health Department, told reporters.

“Some of them have received a second dose of the vaccine, but it’s been less than 14 days since they received the second dose, so they might not have fully developed the immune system,” Deden added.

He declined to specify how many among the 15 medical workers who have received two doses of Sinovac vaccine.

He said the public health center in question temporarily treated Covid-19 patients before they were transferred to hospitals or isolation facilities.

All the 22 infected people are now self isolating at home or admitted to the city’s quarantine facility, the official said.
