Jakarta. Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has vowed to confront National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo if the party’s Secretary-General, Hasto Kristiyanto, is arrested by law enforcement.

“I told Hasto, 'Don’t worry. If you’re arrested, I will go straight to the National Police Chief,’” Megawati said during her political speech at the Perindo Party’s National Work Meeting at INews Tower in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She expressed her belief that Sigit would be unable to respond if she took this action. Megawati also encouraged her party members to stand firm in upholding the truth, despite what she views as ongoing interference with PDI-P.

“I have always maintained that truth is truth. I even consulted constitutional experts and lawyers to verify if I am at fault. If they wanted to target me, they wouldn’t dare. So, they go after those around me,” she added.

Recently, Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto has come under legal scrutiny. He was summoned by the Metro Jaya Police in early June over allegations of spreading false information related to the 2024 election.

Additionally, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned Hasto in connection with a bribery case involving the appointment of DPR members for the 2019-2024 period, with Harun Masiku as a suspect. Furthermore, Hasto’s staff member Kusnadi and four others have been barred from leaving the country by the KPK.
