Memorial Services Held for Police Officers Killed in Kampung Melayu Terror Blast
Jakarta. Memorial services were held on Thursday (25/05) in honor of three police officers — one of them a rookie cop — who were killed when two explosions — believed to be the work of suicide bombers — rocked Kampung Melayu bus terminal in East Jakarta on Wednesday night.
Two distinct blasts were heard between 9.00 p.m. and 9.05 p.m. on Wednesday, killing two suspected suicide bombers instantly and three young police officers — Taufan Tsunami, Ridho Setiawan and Imam Gilang Adinata — who were there to secure an approaching night parade organized to welcome the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Two of the fallen police officers were fresh graduates of the police academy. The body of First Brigadier Taufan Tsunami arrived at the Pondok Rangoon cemetery in East Jakarta at 10.40 a.m. from his home in Bekasi, West Java. A memorial service for him was led by Jakarta Police Deputy Chief Brig. Gen. Suntana.
Taufan's father Busono Heri, 60, and mother Asiah, 55, could not hold back tears when Suntana announced that Taufan had been given a posthumous promotion since he was killed while on duty.
Taufan had only been a member of the Jakarta Police force for a few months before he was killed last night.
Top officials from the Jakarta Police, Bekasi Police and military officers also attended the memorial service for Taufan.
Two more memorial services were also held for the other police officers killed in the blast. First Brigadier Ridho Setiawan, who will be buried in his hometown of Lampung, had a memorial service held for him at the Al-Jihad mosque in the Dasana Indah housing estate in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang.
First Brigadier Imam Gilang Adinata meanwhile will be buried in his hometown of Klaten, Central Java. Imam has served four years with the Jakarta Police.
All three police officers received a posthumous rank promotion from Second Brigadier to First Brigadier.
