MPR Begins Distributing Invitations for Oct. 20 Presidential Inauguration

Jakarta. The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) began distributing invitations on Monday for the inauguration of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto as Indonesia’s eighth president. Prominent guests, including regional leaders and ambassadors, are among those receiving the invitations.
MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani will personally lead a delegation to hand-deliver invitations to key figures, including outgoing President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Prabowo himself.
The delegation is scheduled to meet Prabowo at the Defense Ministry during lunchtime, followed by a visit to the Merdeka Palace to meet with President Jokowi. Later, at 4:00 p.m., they will visit the vice presidential office to meet Ma'ruf Amin, and the day will conclude with a stop at Gibran’s private residence in Jakarta at 6:30 p.m., according to the MPR Secretariat.
"We will brief them on the agenda for the October 20 inauguration ceremony and hope for their attendance when the new president and vice president are sworn into office. Let's hope for a smooth and successful event," Muzani told reporters at his office in Jakarta.
The MPR delegation will also personally deliver invitations to all living former presidents and vice presidents, including Megawati Soekarnoputri, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Try Sutrisno, Boediono, and Jusuf Kalla.
Prabowo’s rivals from the February 14 presidential and vice-presidential election, including Ganjar Pranowo, Anies Baswedan, Mohammad Mahfud MD, and Muhaimin Iskandar, will also be invited to the ceremony.
Muzani noted that several leaders from neighboring countries have expressed interest in attending the event, though he did not specify who they are.
The inauguration ceremony will take place at the Nusantara Building within the legislature complex in Jakarta, starting at 10:00 a.m. The program will include the official announcement of election results by the General Election Commission (KPU), the swearing-in of the new president, and Prabowo’s first public address as president.
