Belawan, North Sumatra. Police are still trying to uncover the motives of a man from Belawan, North Sumatra, who killed his own mother on Wednesday (02/03) by setting fire to her house while she was still inside.
“The suspected arsonist is Saduan Muda Siregar. The 40-year-old had argued with his mother [Masriati Boru Hutasuhut, 60] prior to the incident,” AKP Bambang Gunanti Hutabarat, head of Belawan Police's criminal investigation unit, said on Thursday.
Bambang said police are still questioning several witnesses about the incident, including the suspect’s neighbor, who claimed Saduan was known to erupt into fits of rage and ransack his parents' house.
The suspect, himself a father of two, not only destroyed his parents' home but also that of his neighbors, said neighborhood chief Anton Hutapea.
“We tried to put out the fire but the flames grew bigger. We contacted the fire department who extinguished the fire two hours later,” he explained.
The victim’s charred body was found inside the house.
