Jakarta. National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian seeks to improve the level of service his officers provide to the general public.

"Public service was the main topic and how the police will have to improve it," Tito said after a meeting with Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Asman Abnur at the National Police headquarters in Jakarta on Friday (19/08).

The general spoke about current innovations that allow the police to respond quickly, but at the same time he stressed the lack of online access to many services.

"This is what we need to correct. Driver's licenses are available online but not vehicle registrations, vehicle ownership books and police clearance reports. Public service rooms also need to be improved," Tito said.

During the meeting, Tito also announced the establishment of new police headquarters in West Sulawesi and a status upgrade of two regional police headquarters in North Sulawesi and West Kalimantan. He also proposed upgrades of three other regional police departments in Riau, Riau Islands and Lampung.

The National Police also plans to introduce a single emergency number and to hold quick-response competitions among regional police headquarters to provide optimal services to the public.
