Jakarta. TransJakarta will introduce an administration fee when reloading bus passes at all TransJakarta bus stops.

The new fee of Rp 2,000 (15 US cents) will apply only to all those who reload their bus passes using cash.

“The new policy will be effective from Jan. 1 at all TransJakarta bus stops,” TransJakarta president director, Budi Kaliwono told state news agency Antara in Jakarta on Thursday (30/12).

The administration fee will not be imposed on those who reload bus passes using a debit card, in order to encourage cashless payment.

“To date, electronic transactions are still low, despite the large population. There is still huge potential in widening payment options in Indonesia,” Budi said.

Additionally, TransJakarta will close all cash transactions by 10 p.m. at all stations, and begin operations again at 5 a.m. for safety reasons.

“To increase safety in bus stops, transactions will close at 10 p.m., so all cash in all stops will be extracted by then,” he said.

“The money raised from administration fee charges will be put towards TransJakarta’s charitable causes such as site visits for the elderly and children,” Budi said.
