Banda Aceh. The sport climbing team of North Sumatra beat West Kalimantan led by Olympic gold medalist Veddriq Leonardo in the National Sports Week (PON) in Banda Aceh on Sunday to eventually win the group competition.

In the final of the speed relay, the team of Busan Muhammad Rifki, Rian Gordon, and Glenn Bakri outpaced the Central Java team, which also has Olympic athlete Kiromal Katibin, to grab the gold medal with a time of 15.84 seconds.

"The three of us have prepared for this competition since 2019 with the aim of a win," Busan said.

He added that the trio was laser-focused on improving their performance rather than worrying about their opponents.

"We didn’t waste time worrying about our rivals. We all know Veddriq is an Olympic champion but that’s an individual achievement. We believe in our team," he said.

Sport climbing offers 16 gold medals in the current games, involving 188 climbers from 26 provinces.
