'Nothing to Lose' Indonesia Faces Under Pressure Thailand in AFF Cup Final
Jakarta. Indra Sjafri, the former head coach of the Indonesian U19 team and Bali United's caretaker coach said one thing may push Indonesia over the line on Saturday night's AFF Cup final against Thailand: the team has got nothing to lose.
"Technically and physically, we're on the same level as Thailand," Indra told the Jakarta Globe on Saturday (17/12).
"The team's mental strength is also much improved. The players didn't despair on Wednesday [first leg of the final] when they fell one goal behind. That's rare for an Indonesian team," he said.
"It might be because we have got nothing to lose since Indonesian football has been in a state of almost complete disrepair. Maybe the players are feeling no pressure."
"The Thai team will play under more pressure since they're supposed to be the favorites. Indonesia has been the underdog since the first round," Indra said.
