One Killed in S. Jakarta Adventist Church Break-In
Jakarta. Two intruders broke in to an Adventist Church in South Jakarta on Monday morning and allegedly murdered an on-site construction worker, a police officer said.
Comr. Rifazudin, chief of the Kebayoran Lama Police, told reporters on Monday that two unidentified persons had broken in to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Kebayoran Lama around 3 a.m.
"The suspects broke the locks and entered through the windows," Rifazudin said as quoted by news portal Kompas.com.
When the officers arrived at the church, which is currently under renovation, they found the body of a construction worker identified as 45-year-old Asep Ginanjar.
According to Rifazudin, the victim had been asleep and was woken up by the intruder.
The church's security guard, Aris Margono, was alerted to the fight and fled to look for help from the housing complex guards, who in turn reported the incident to Kabayoran Lama Police.
"When officers arrived, they saw the victim lying on the floor with his mouth duct-taped shut and bloodied," said Rifazudin.
Rifazudin said police immediately investigated the crime scene and evacuated Asep to Fatmawati hospital in South Jakarta.
