Jakarta. Former President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the China-funded Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway on Oct. 2, 2023. The $7.3 billion rail project, known as Whoosh, has served 6 million passengers in its first year of operation.

Eva Chairunisa, Corporate Secretary of Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), reported that of the 6 million passengers, Whoosh has also served 10,500 individuals with disabilities.

Access remains a key concern for the public. Eva said on Wednesday that KCIC, as the project’s consortium, is actively working on intermodal integration to enhance mobility to Whoosh stations.

Halim Station is now connected to various transportation modes, including the Greater Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT), Transjakarta buses, shuttles to Halim Perdanakusumah Airport and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, as well as designated areas for taxis and ride-hailing services. Private vehicle users can reach the station via the Jakarta-Cikampek toll exit at Km 1+842 and DI Panjaitan Street.

At Padalarang Station, Whoosh has integrated with state railway operator KAI station for feeder trains and the Bandung Raya commuter line. Currently, Transmetro Pasundan buses are available to transport passengers to Bandung Square, along with free shuttles to the new city area of Parahyangan. Private vehicle users can access the station via the Padaleunyi toll exit at Km 121, which connects to Panaris Street.

Meanwhile, at Tegalluar Summarecon Station, passengers can utilize Damri buses to Bandung and free shuttles to the Summarecon Bandung area. Private vehicle access is available via the Cibiru Hilir Bridge, connecting Gedebage and Summarecon Bandung.

The high-speed railway allows travelers to journey from Jakarta to Bandung in just 45 minutes, with single-trip fares starting at around Rp 300,000 ($19.39).

According to KCIC, Whoosh can now accommodate up to 22,000 passengers in a single day, a significant increase from just 8,000 passengers in October 2023. The service currently operates 48 trips daily, a significant increase from the initial 14 trips at launch.
