Passing Driving School Becomes Requirement to Obtain Driver's License
Jakarta. The National Police have issued a regulation obliging driver's license applicants to complete the course in government-approved driving schools, a senior officer said on Tuesday.
The regulation was signed recently by National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo to amend the previous one, said Brig. Gen. Yusri Yunus, the registration director of the National Police Traffic Corps.
"One of the [new] administrative requirements is a driving school certificate," Yusri said. The certificate "must be issued by accredited driving schools which employ only licensed instructors", he added.
But the new rule doesn't immediately come into effect pending the issuance of operational manual and guidelines, Yusri added.
Currently, driver's license applicants must undergo written and driving tests conducted by the police on the same day.
Most driving tests, which last for a few minutes, include reverse parking, zig-zag maneuver, and stop-and-go driving while on a slope.Tags:
