PKS Set to Sanction Elected Council Member Accused of Molesting A Child

Jakarta. The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has announced that it will impose internal sanctions on its member, HA, who has been named a suspect in a child molestation case in Singkawang, West Kalimantan.

HA was recently elected as a regional council (DPRD) member in Singkawang. He was seen taking part in the oath-taking ceremony of Singkawang City council members for the 2024-2029 term at the Singkawang Mayor's Office Hall on Tuesday.

HA was named a suspect in an alleged molestation case involving a 13-year-old child on Aug. 26. The Singkawang Police have summoned HA twice, but he did not attend, citing illness. According to a letter from a hospital in Pontianak City, HA was advised to rest completely until Sept. 27.

"We have an internal team that will decide on the internal sanctions later," PKS acting chairman Ahmad "Aher" Heryawan told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.

Aher added that his party will respect the legal process.

The Chairman of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), Rahmat Bagja, previously said that if HA is proven to have committed the crime, his inauguration can be postponed.

"Has there been a court decision? If HA is proven guilty, he can no longer be a member of the Singkawang council," Rahmat said in Jakarta on Thursday.
