Police Arrest Suspect in Stabbing of Ex-Judicial Commission Chairman

Bandung. It took less than 10 hours for the police to identify and arrest the suspect who allegedly stabbed former court watchdog Judicial Commission Jaja Ahmad Jayus and his daughter in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday evening.
The attack at Jaja’s residence was an armed robbery attempt, Bandung Metropolitan Police Chief Kusworo Wibowo told a news conference on Wednesday.
The suspect is identified as Aditya, 35, who used a sickle-shaped knife in his action.
"After the crime scene investigation, the Bandung Metropolitan Police arrested Aditya at 10:30 p.m. and seized a motorcycle as evidence at Mekarwangi area in the city of Bandung," Kusworo said.
The suspect, who was presented at the news conference, is charged with violent armed robbery and other offenses that carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
"He arrived near the crime scene at around 11:00 a.m. in search of targets until he saw a car driven by an elderly, we know as Mr. Jaja and followed him," Kusworo said.
Aditya went inside the home to steal valuable belongings but Jaja’s daughter Rachmi Dwi Utami caught his action and screamed.
"The suspect threw her to the room and asked her to remain silent. She kept screaming in panic so [the suspect] attacked her with a knife," the officer said.
Jaja immediately arrived upon hearing the noise but he too was stabbed by Aditya, who then left the scene empty-handed on a motorcycle.
The father and daughter are currently being treated at a Bandung hospital.
"There are no stolen items because his action was caught by the daughter," Kusworo said.
Police had examined security camera footage from the home before deploying a team to arrest Aditya, he added.
