Police to Hand Over Jessica's Dossiers to Prosecutors Next Week
Jakarta. Police investigators will hand over the case dossiers of Jessica Kumala Wongso, the suspect in the murder of her friend Wayan Mirna Salihin, to state prosecutors next week, an official has said.
Police are still making a summary of the dossiers, which include investigation reports of witnesses and experts, evidence, and the results of case reenactments, Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti, general crimes director of the Jakarta Police, said on Thursday.
"For now, we just have to take the important points and analyze them," Krishna said.
"We are working on this day and night. And next week, we will hopefully submit the case dossiers to the prosecutors."
Late last month, police investigators held joint examinations on Mirna's case with state prosecutors, which concluded that the evidence against Jessica is sufficient.
Jessica has since been named a suspect and police subsequently arrested and detained the 27-year-old. She has been charged with the premeditated murder of Mirna, meaning she could face the death penalty.
Mirna, also 27, died at a Jakarta hospital shortly after suffering convulsions on Jan. 6 at a cafe in Grand Indonesia mall after taking a sip of her ice coffee.
Lab testing confirmed traces of cyanide inside her stomach, as well as in her coffee drink, which police found was ordered by Jessica after she arrived at the cafe almost an hour earlier.
