Police Nab Online Prostitution Ring Disguised as Modeling Agency

AUGUST 24, 2016

Jakarta. Jakarta Police’s cyber crime unit arrested two people allegedly involved in an online prostitution ring disguised as a modeling agency on Tuesday (23/08).

"The suspects manage a website offering models and sales promotion girls for "BO" ("booking out," local slang for escort and sex services) with prices varying from Rp 5 million [$380] to Rp 7 million," Jakarta Police spokesman Chief Comr. Awi Setiyono said.

The two suspects, known by their initials ANY and T, were arrested at the same time.

"From ANY, we seized a red Dell laptop, an iPhone 6 and Rp 1.5 million in cash. From T, we seized an iPhone 6, Rp 3.5 million in cash and a set of undergarments," Awi said.

The police commissioner said ANY was responsible for setting up the bogus online modeling agency, which was a cover for pimping paid sexual services through WhatsApp and BlackBerry Messenger numbers listed on the site.

Awi said the police discovered the site during a routine cyber patrol check.

"On the website, you can find models, sales promotion girls and other talents, complete with their profiles, pictures and contact numbers," Awi said.

Clients had to negotiate a deal first with the suspects before the girls were sent to the desired locations.

"The clients had to pay a 'down payment' first, 50 percent of the agreed deal. The rest of the money were given to the girls," Awi said.
