Police Again Question Parents of Medan Church Bombing Suspect

AUGUST 30, 2016

Jakarta. M. Hasugian and Arista Boru Purba, the parents of Ivan Armadi Hasugian, the 17-year-old suspect in a failed suicide bomb attack on the St. Yoseph Catholic Church in Medan, North Sumatra, over the weekend, appeared exhausted when they arrived at the police headquarters for more questioning on Tuesday (30/08).

"We are unable to give any comment. We have been summoned by the investigators," Hasugian said shortly before entering the offices of the Medan Police.

Hasugian, who is a lawyer, did not confirm whether he would represent his son during the trial.

"It is possible, if I feel well enough," he said.

The Medan Police's initial investigation found that Ivan was an amateur bomb-maker who had been testing homemade explosives prior to the attack.
