Jakarta. The National Police Chief, Sigit Listyo Prabowo, has proposed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to increase the number of police attaches in Indonesian embassies and consulates, an official stated on Tuesday.

"The National Police chief has suggested deploying police attaches to several countries, and the proposal is currently under discussion at the Foreign Affairs Ministry," said Inspector General Krishna Murti, the head of the National Police International Relations Division.

Krishna said the proposal was made based on specific considerations and pressing needs from the police, but the final decision rests with the ministry.

However, Krishna declined to disclose the countries where the police intend to station attaches.

He also noted that in recent years, the ministry has already assigned police attaches to its consulate in New York and embassies in Berlin and Ankara.

Krishna highlighted that the police aim to bolster their international presence amid the growing responsibility to combat transnational crimes, including people smuggling, drug trafficking, cybercrimes, and money laundering.
