PPP Asks Kalla for Greater Govt Role at Party Meeting

FEBRUARY 19, 2015

Jakarta. United Development Party (PPP) chairman Romahurmuziy called for more government positions for members of his party on Thursday at a meeting attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

“We will have a closer relationship if we have more PPP members in the government,” he said at the opening of a PPP national meeting in Jakarta.

“I don't think it is excessive if I, as the chairman, ask for more because I see that there are many of the government’s tasks that need to be helped through by the PPP in the future.”

The PPP has two party members in the government; Lukman Hakim Saifuddin is the Religious Affairs Minister and Soarso Monoarfa is a member of the president's advisory board.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the request would be taken under consideration.

"Let’s see," Kalla said. "Maybe in the future, depending on the developments. If the government develops well, such developments can happen."

Kalla said the PPP had been a loyal supporter of President Joko Widodo's administration and that would form part of his thinking in the coming months.
