Unity inside the ironically named United Development Party (PPP) remains elusive despite the so-called reconciliation congress this weekend, which saw Muhammad Romahurmuziy chosen as the new party chairman in a process dismissed by some as a sham. (Antara Photo/Widodo S Jusuf)

PPP Flags Support for Tax Amnesty Bill

APRIL 09, 2016

Jakarta. Romahurmuziy, secretary general of the United Development Party, or PPP, committed the party's support for the tax amnesty at the party's conference on Friday (08/04) in East Jakarta.

"PPP supports the introduction of tax amnesty," Romahurmuziy said during the opening speech. "It is meant to increase tax income as there is great potential for tax evasion and manipulation by using tax haven territories."

He pointed to the revelations found in the recent released Panama Papers as evidence of the need for the new legislation. No "true members" of the PPP were mentioned in the leaks, he added.

The party has called on tax officials to investigate Indonesian businesses and entities using tax haven countries.
