Pramono Anung Pledges to Double Early Childhood Teacher Incentives
Jakarta. Pramono Anung, a candidate for Jakarta governor from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has pledged to double the incentives for early childhood education (PAUD) teachers to improve their welfare.
According to Pramono, the current incentives for PAUD teachers are insufficient. He emphasized that these incentives must be matched with those of other educators, doubling them to help meet their financial needs.
“The incentives for PAUD teachers, including community welfare group (dasawisma) members, public health center (posyandu) employees, and jumantik (mosquito larvae monitoring volunteers), are indeed small. For PAUD teachers, it is only Rp 550,000 ($35.6),” he said after a gathering with Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Jakarta women members at their headquarters on Thursday.
The former Cabinet Secretary said PAUD teachers are the first educators in children's learning journeys, pointing out that many come from a Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) background. He mentioned receiving suggestions to empower NU women beyond traditional roles, such as mosque councils and Quran recitation teachers.
“Muslim women must also be empowered to build Jakarta,” he added.
Pramono has selected celebrity and politician Rano Karno as his vice-governor candidate. Together, they will compete against Ridwan Kamil-Suswono and independent candidates Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana. Approximately 8.7 million Jakartans will cast their ballots on November 27.
