Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has officially relocated his office to the future national capital, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan as of Monday. Despite the ongoing construction and lack of first-class facilities, the president has kept his promise to start working from Nusantara in the final months of his term starting in July.

A staff of the presidential office confirmed that Jokowi began his daily presidential activities from the new location.

"This morning, Mr. President began to receive guests and hold meetings at the presidential office in Nusantara, just as he did at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta," said Yusuf Permana, a deputy of the Presidential Secretariat in charge of protocol and media relations.

The president's first agenda was a meeting with executives of the Nusantara Authority. Yusuf said the president was accompanied by Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and State Secretary Pratikno.

Later today, Jokowi is scheduled to meet with provincial leaders of East Kalimantan.

On Sunday, Jokowi inaugurated the Balang Island Bridge, a monumental 1,750-meter span near Nusantara. However, the bridge, located in North Penajam Paser regency, will not be open to the public until December due to pending finishing work.

The bridge connects East Kalimantan's largest city, Balikpapan, to Nusantara. Construction began in 2015 and cost an estimated Rp 1.43 trillion ($87.9 million).
