Presidential Candidate Prabowo Enjoys Massive Lead in Early Quick Count

Jakarta. Candidate Prabowo Subianto is taking the lead on the early quick count of votes as Indonesia holds the world’s largest single-day election on Wednesday. Initial results indicate that the defense minister is getting closer to an outright win.
Pollster Lembaga Survei Indonesia (LSI) reported that Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka has secured 57.13 percent of the votes as of 4.17 p.m. Followed by Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (25.55 percent) and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD (17.33 percent). However, the quick count polls had only collected 59.7 percent of the votes.
Another quick count by Poltracking Indonesia revealed that Prabowo was on the strong lead of 59.68 percent. Seconded by Anies-Muhaimin (23.38 percent). Ganjar-Mahfud fell behind by only earning 16.94 percent of the votes.
An unofficial tally by Cyrus Network puts Prabowo-Gibran on a strong lead of 58.48 percent. The same goes for the quick count by Indikator which shows Prabowo-Gibran claiming 58.05 percent of the votes. Prabowo, who currently serves as the defense minister, is also leading Voxpol Center’s early tally winning at 58.04 percent. Prabowo is also defeating his rivals at Populi Center and Lingkaran Survei Indonesia polls by securing 59.7 percent and 58.8 percent of the votes, respectively.
The early polls show a strong possibility of Prabowo claiming victory in one round of the election. Prabowo needs to earn over 50 percent of the total votes if he wants to claim victory in just a single round. He must also earn at least 20 percent of the votes in half of Indonesia’s provinces. According to the General Election Commission (KPU), Indonesia will announce the official results by March 20 at the latest.
If he wins the election, Prabowo will succeed President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo who has ruled Indonesia for a decade. Prabowo’s running mate Gibran is Jokowi’s son. During his campaign, Prabowo had promised continuity of Jokowi’s policies.
