Procurement Officers Get Much-Needed Raise From Jokowi

JANUARY 03, 2017

Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's administration issued a new regulation to raise procurement officers' allowance late last year.

The Cabinet Secretary website announced on Tuesday (03/01) that Jokowi signed the regulation on Dec. 23, before Justice Minister Yasonna Laoly passed it into law on Dec. 28.

Entry-level procurement managers now get an allowance of Rp 493,000 ($36), junior managers Rp 876,000 and mid-level managers Rp 1.15 million.

The government said they wanted improved performance from its procurement managers — a crucial position in Indonesia's bureaucracy. The allowance cannot be backdated if the managers get a promotion or moved into another position.
