Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty for Father Who Killed Four Children in Jakarta

Jakarta. Prosecutors have demanded the death penalty for Panca Darmansyah, 41, who stands accused of murdering his four children in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.
“We, the prosecutors, are seeking the death penalty for Panca Darmansyah in this case. We urge the South Jakarta District Court to impose this sentence,” prosecutor Andy Jaya Aryandi said Monday.
Prosecutors argue that Panca has been proven beyond reasonable doubt to have committed premeditated murder against his four children. Additionally, the prosecution has found Panca guilty of domestic violence against his wife.
Prosecutors emphasized that there are no mitigating factors for Panca’s actions.
Three aggravating factors were outlined by the prosecution: the profound emotional impact on witness DM due to the loss of her four children, the inhumanity of Panca's brutal actions, and the resulting harm to DM.
Following the reading of the indictment, the court will schedule the next hearing for the defendant’s or his lawyer’s plea submission.
The plea hearing is set for Aug. 26.
Earlier, Panca Darmansyah had filed an exception to the charges of premeditated murder and domestic violence presented by the prosecutors.
The four children, identified as VA, 6, SP, 4, AR, 3, and AS,1, were found dead in a room in their Jagakarsa home on Dec. 6, 2023, after neighbors reported an unpleasant odor.
When the children were silently murdered, their mother was undergoing treatment at a hospital for severe injuries after she was attacked by Panca a day earlier. Panca was found in the bathroom with self-inflicted stab wounds, apparently attempting suicide,
