PSSI Suspends Two Players for On-Pitch Violence
Jakarta. The Indonesian Football Association, or PSSI, acted on Thursday (04/05) by suspending two footballers for violent behavior on the pitch.
Sragen United goalkeeper Andi Setiawan is deemed to have intentionally kneed Persis Solo opponent Dedi Cahyono Putro during their Liga 2 fixture on Sunday. However, the referee declined to penalize him, resulting in Persis filing an official complaint with the PSSI disciplinary commission on Wednesday.
The PSSI acted swiftly by suspending the Sragen United player a day later.
"Sragen United's Andi Setiawan is issued with a two-month suspension, which bans him from participating in any activities authorized by the PSSI, and an additional fine of Rp 20 million [$1,500]," the national football governing body said in a statement.
Meanwhile, national team player Abduh Lestaluhu, who is a member of military-affiliated club PS TNI, was summoned to a hearing on Thursday for violent action against an opponent in a Liga 1 fixture. He has received a similar sanction.
"Abduh is suspended for five matches, effectively starting on Friday [May 5], and a fine of Rp 10 million because it was proven that he punched Thiago Furtuoso of Bhayangkara," the PSSI said.
