Jakarta. Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Ridwan Kamil and his running mate Suswono lead the competition with support from 48.3 percent of respondents, according to a new survey by Charta Politika Indonesia released on Thursday.

The candidate pair of Pramono Anung and running mate Rano Karno is trailing by 11.8 points but Charta Politika Executive Director Yunarto Wijaya noted their consistent surge in the past month, citing survey by different pollsters.

“It seems that the two candidate pairs are going into a fierce battle with 52 days remaining until the election,” Yunarto said.

In the early days after Pramono secured his candidacy, he was favored by only 28 percent of respondents in a poll by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) but his popularity rose to 31.5 percent based on the survey by Polltracking in mid-September.

In the Charta Politika survey, 36.5 percent of respondents said they would vote for Pramono and Rano, suggesting a steady rise in their electability, Yunarto explained.

Independent candidate Dharma Pongrekun was voted by only 5.5 percent of respondents.

Furthermore, actor-turned-politician Rano is the most popular vice gubernatorial candidate in Jakarta with support from 44.5 percent of respondents, as opposed to Suswono’s 28.8 percent, according to the Charta Politika survey.

“It’s the opposite situation when it comes to the vice gubernatorial candidates because Mr. Suswono, despite having served as a minister, isn’t very popular and is far behind Rano Karno,” Yunarto said.

The survey was conducted from Sept. 19-24 involving 1,200 eligible voters in Jakarta with a margin of error plus or minus 2.83 percentage points.
