Rio 2016: Indonesia's Women's Badminton Doubles Pair Advance to Quarter-Finals
Jakarta. Indonesia's women's badminton doubles pair Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Rio 2016 Olympics on Friday (12/08) after defeating British pair Heather Olver and Lauren Smith.
After winning their first two games, Greysia and Nitya have now assured their progress to the next stage, although they still have another match left in the preliminary round against a Malaysian pair on Saturday.
In the match against the British pair, Greysia and Nitya showed their class, winning in straight sets, 21-10, 21-13.
The Indonesian pair had to change strategy mid-match as their opponents caught on to their style of playing.
"Greysia and Nitya's half-smash attack worked well in the first set. But the opponents read their style well. So I instructed them to play long rallies instead," coach Eng Hian said after the game as quoted by Badmintonindonesia.org.
Greysia and Nitya will play in the quarter-finals on Monday. Their opponents are yet to be determined.
