Jakarta. This month, seven Indonesian fashion designers will present their latest collections at four international fashion weeks.
Rani Hatta, Monique Soeriaatmadja, Anandia Marina Putri Harahap, Novita Yunus, Michelle Tjokrosaputro, Peggy Hartanto and Ria Miranda were all selected to join Indonesia Fashion Forward, Jakarta Fashion Week's (JFW) incubation program for talented designers.
The program is co-sponsored by the government's Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), the British Council and the Center for Fashion Enterprise (CFE) in London. It allows designers to access regional and international markets.
JFW director Lenni Tedja, said the organization's primary focus is to send Indonesian designers abroad for international fashion weeks.
"A lot of our designers have begun collaborating with their global counterparts in recent months. This year, Indonesia Fashion Forward is working with other like-minded international institutions to boost the growth of Indonesia's fashion industry," she said.
Novita will present the latest collection from her fashion label Novita Yunus at Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017, which will be showcased at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on March 15.
Novita's inclusion in Amazon India Fashion week was facilitated by JFW, the Indian Embassy in Jakarta and the Fashion Design Council of India. Novita, who once worked as banker, will be the first Indonesian designer to participate in the event.
Anandia Marina Putri Harahap, the founder and creative director of I.K.Y.K (I Know You Know), and Peggy Hartanto will present their collections at Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival in Melbourne on March 15, closing the third and final year of collaboration between JFW, the Australia-Indonesia Center (AIC) and the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Michelle Tjokrosaputro and Rani Hatta will share a runway at Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo on March 20-25.
Ria Miranda and Monique Soeriaatmadja of the fashion label SOE Jakarta will present their latest designs at Seoul KODE Fall/Winter 2017 in Gangnam, South Korea, on March 28-30. This will be the fourth year of collaboration between JFW, the Korean Cultural Center and Korea Creative Content Agency.
In February, JFW partnered with the British Council to bring Amanda Indah Lestari's Lekat di Hati label to London Fashion Week.
