Jakarta. Indonesia's national football team coach, Shin Tae-yong, denied rumors of extending his contract until 2027.

"I haven't signed anything regarding a contract extension until 2027," said Shin Tae-yong on Monday.

While not denying the meeting with Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) Chairman, Erick Thohir, he stated, "But, President Erick Thohir and I had a good discussion."

Shin Tae-yong expressed his intention to extend his contract with the Indonesian national team. "After talking to him (Erick Thohir), I will sign the contract extension," he added.

He explained why he wanted to stay in Indonesia as a football coach. "Indonesian football is improving, and that's what I like. And now, I believe whoever the opponent is, we can compete with them," he continued.

The Korean-born coach feels that the players he has trained in the Indonesian national team are ready to compete in the Paris Olympics if Indonesia reaches the final of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup held in Qatar.

"Our preparation for the Olympic qualifiers is going well. Even for the upcoming World Cup, my target is to play all the matches well in June and qualify for the third round," he said.

Shin Tae-yong feels his responsibility as a coach is not only to produce good players but also to monitor whoever the opponent of the Indonesian national team will be.

"I keep monitoring the development of our opponents. We are continuously improving towards a better direction," he explained.

"I ask all the people to keep supporting us," he concluded.

Last week, Erick Thohir announced on Instagram that Coach Shin Tae-yong had agreed to a contract extension until 2027 after the Garuda Squad secured a spot in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup quarterfinals.

Often criticized for relying on naturalized players, Shin Tae-yong has proven himself as a reliable coach. Under his guidance, the Indonesian senior national team reached the Round of 16 in the AFC Asian Cup for the first time. Most recently, he led the Indonesian U-23 national team to the semi-finals of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup, defeating Australia and Jordan in the group stage and South Korea in the quarter-final.
