Jakarta. Police arrested six suspected terrorists in Tolitoli, Central Sulawesi, on Friday (10/03) for allegedly plotting to attack security forces in the area, a spokesman said.

The suspects, aged between 13 and 30, were planning to launch attacks on the Parigi Police headquarters in Central Sulawesi.

"They also planned to launch attacks on officers safeguarding banks in the area," National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said in Jakarta on Friday.

The suspects were arrested with bomb-making materials in their possession. This included potassium nitrate, sulfur, charcoal, metal spikes and methane.

Indonesia has seen a sharp rise in the number of terrorist attacks in recent times, the most brazen of which was an Islamic State-linked assault in downtown Jakarta that killed four people on Jan. 14 last year.

However, Indonesian police have managed to thwart several other plots, including disrupting a planned rocket attack on the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore in July last year.

The National Police and the counterterrorism unit, Densus 88, have arrested dozens of militants suspected of plotting attacks against security forces across the country.
