Sold-Out Stadium Awaits as Indonesia Battles Australia in World Cup Qualifiers

Jakarta. Indonesia’s national football team will take on Australia in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the AFC zone, Group C, on Tuesday. Head coach Shin Tae-yong (STY) has acknowledged the challenge posed by the match.
“Australia is ranked in the FIFA top 20, while Indonesia is in the 130s, so this will certainly be a tough game for us,” STY said at a press conference held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK) in Jakarta on Monday.
Despite the odds, STY remains confident that his players will fight hard. This match will be the second for both teams in the third round of the qualifiers.
“Our players will never give up. We are committed to giving our all against Australia tomorrow,” the South Korean coach added.
Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Justin Hubner emphasized that the team is well-prepared. “We are ready for tomorrow’s match. We’ve prepared thoroughly and will do everything we can to defeat Australia. We will fight hard and see what happens,” Hubner said.
The match will take place at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta at 7:00 p.m. WIB. All tickets for the stadium have been sold out two days prior to the game.
This fixture is the second for both teams in the qualifiers. In their opening matches, Indonesia drew 1-1 with host Saudi Arabia, while Australia lost 0-1 to Bahrain.
Currently, the Garuda Squad is in fourth place in Group C, behind Japan (six points), Bahrain (six points), and Saudi Arabia (one point). Australia and China are in fifth and sixth places with zero points.
Saudi Arabia leads Indonesia due to receiving only two yellow cards compared to Indonesia’s three.
