Spain's Manager Lopetegui Sends Best Wishes to New Indonesia Head Coach and Compatriot Milla
Jakarta. Spain's national team manager Julen Lopetegui sent his best wishes on Instagram to his old compatriot Luis Milla Aspas, who has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indonesian national team.
Milla will kick off on his new job this week.
"Wish Luis Milla best of luck in his new role coaching Indonesia. A great coach and a good friend," Lopetegui said in his official Instagram account @julenlopetegui on Wednesday (08/02).
Lopetegui was Milla's assistant coach when they managed Spain's U21 team in the London Olympics 2012.
Soon after London, in which the Spanish team failed to get past the group stage, Milla was fired even though his team had been unbeaten for two years before the Games.
Milla signed a two-year contract with the Indonesian Football Association, or PSSI, on Jan. 21.
He will manage two teams, the Indonesian senior team and the U23 team. His first assignment will be the SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia, to which Indonesia will send its U23 squad.
PSSI has not decided who will be Milla's assistant coach.
